Today I used my brand spanking new $49.95 Sew DeLite Supreme by Elna to sew one of Made by Rae's Buttercup bags.
It was very easy and cost me about $10 to make in total (minus the sewing machine), her instructions are easy to follow and simple any beginner can follow, I hadn't sewn anything since year 12 Home EC.
I still have a few adjustments and additions to make. I need to sew the handle on and the buttons onto the front, but I ran out of time as we were having another DECK party at the in-laws across the road.
I fixed the strap by sewing a big X in the middle (I need to practice on diagonals), added self covered buttons with the lining fabric. Next time I will use heavy interfacing fabric on the outer part of the bag to stiffen it up as its really floppy. I will also topstitch the top part of the bag to to finish it off.
I just want to make more now!

Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteCan I ask, how did you find the little machine? A review of its workings would be great!
It did everything I needed it to do, I found it hard to keep a consistant momentum with the tiny foot peddle but it did okay. I would love to have measurements on the needle plate but other than that it ran well. Maybe I need to play with the sewing speed control button, and the tension. I only does straight stitch but I have never used any other stitch anyway. The only other thing it doesn't have is the auto button stitch, my Mum's machine has that if I ever need to do button holes.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to making more things now.
