Without makeup

I am joining Jodie (and a massive group of other bloggers) in Bloggers Without Makeup Day. (A bit late but at least it's still Friday for me to join in.

I practically wear make up all the time; it is rare that people other than my partner or family see me without at least foundation, mascara and lipgloss.

I have 2 drawers full (almost overflowing) with makeup products. I use a variety of different make up products the latest brand I am using is Mirenesse, I am loving it. I also use Arbonne too.

I suppose I do tend to hide behind the make up façade, it makes me feel a little more secure (and less insecure). There is a myriad of things that I don't like about the way I look, but of late I have embraced that THIS IS WHO I AM!

You probably can't see the non shapely eyebrows or the fine blonde hairs that are between my brows. Nor the chicken pox scars, the bags under my eyes, my astigmatism of my left eye. There is too many to list. But I have been brave and taken off the layers of make up and been honest. I do like ME just the way I am, but I do feel more comfortable wearing make up in public (as people can be judgemental and rude without even saying a word).

For those who don't know I was born at 26 weeks at 680g and was lucky to have lived at all let alone made it to nearly 30. Due to the amount of oxygen in the humidy crib my left eye has never fully developed sight. I can see quite a bit just not focus or read ANYTHING. I don't consider myself to have a disability; I do everything, I just need to compensate for the lack of depth perception and vision in my left eye.  I almost went blind at age 19, due to my retina's detaching and the cataract surgeries and multitude to others to follow (all totalling 21 over my life). So I am very insecure about my looks and often find that kids and some adults can be quite rude. I have learnt to accept that this is the way I look to to focus on the positives but it is hard when people who don't know me stare. I have been often asked why I don't tend to look people in the face during conversations and the fact is I don't like them looking at me.

I suppose I just need to remember how lucky I am to be alive and that my eyesight is my only problem. There is people in the world far worse off than not having 20-20 vision. I do make up for that in my bubbly personality and the fact that I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to.

For the next week I am not wearing make up (just moisturiser and sunscreen) and a clear lip balm.

  6. Adalita, you look beautiful. I think sometimes we think people are judging us when perhaps they are not, we are just projecting our own fears onto the situation. We're all guilty of that. I think this Bloggers Without Makeup day has been a wonderful opportunity for all of us to come out and show our lovely selves and support each other. Because you truly are beautiful. And congrats on the weight loss.

  8. You look beautiful. And you're right, there are worse things than not having 20-20 vision, but somedays, needing glasses to see just sucks.

  9. Indeed it does Cerry, I can't see my toes in the shower without my contacts in - I can't drive or cross the road without glasses or contacts. Apparently I am legally blind without them. My little sister has worse vision that I do and its not from our parents they only started wearing glasses a year ago.
Off to the markets this morning without makeup! Day 2 down!
