RUOK? DAY

RUOK?

Today is RUOK? DAY. It is the day where we take the time to ask; Are you Okay? (RUOK?). This is a National Movement which helps prevent suicide by getting people to talk to those they care about to prevent problems becoming overwhelming.

All Australians, need to ask each other; "Are you okay?"

I was a teenager who suffered depression and tried to commit suicide a number of times; I am fully supporting this movement. All it takes is one person to open up and listen. For me it was my MUM. I love you Mum!

By opening up and talking to people you are able to rationalise and conceptualise your problems or just get the help you need.  Don't let it go too far.

Ask someone today; RUOK? By asking that one simple question you can start a conversation that could change a life. Maybe it might be your own. SPEAK UP and ask RUOK?

For help and assistance there are people out there to help: such as Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467.

For more information see the RUOK? Website.

  2. I am ok, school has one more day until spring holidays. Other than stressing about work and renovating our house for over a year. I'm fantastic. I'll be even better at 3pm tomorrow. I'll chase my students assessment next term.

  3. That's awesome. My sister was in the psych ward many times for attempting suicide, and just this past May - my ex-husband hung himself. (he was the father of my 10 year old.) It was weird because 9 years ago his grandfather had committed suicide the same way. I'm from the states, and I see that this is a national thing for you - but suicide awareness is important in any nation. Good for you for passing this on.
